Okay, folks. It’s official. The Next Great American Band is a complete joke.
I’ve missed the show the past couple of weeks, so I haven’t been able to follow all the band performances. But here’s what I can gather from the Web:
- The Muggs and Rocket were voted off on week 4. No surprise there. I’m disappointed that the Muggs faltered, but after their week 3 performance, they deserved the boot. Rocket deserved the boot no matter what.
- Franklin Bridge got voted off on week 5, but Light of Doom SURVIVED?!?
What is this world coming to?
Light of Doom has shown the least versatility of any band. All they do is cram the covers they do into a stock heavy metal template (a genre I dislike to begin with). Same drum beat. Same instrumentation. Same style. Same dynamic level from the beginning of the song to the end. As a result, Light of Doom exhibits less musical sensitivity or creativity than any other band in the competition. This makes perfect sense — after all, THEY’RE KIDS.
The best band is gone, and we aren’t even halfway through the show. Positively absurd. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised, but it still ticks me off.
I don’t like to play the snobby elitist condescending to the unwashed masses with no musical taste, but America, I gotta ask: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?
P.S. Note to self — try to get worked up over issues of actual consequence next time. 😉
